FESTIVALS

Cultural festivals in Saint Lucia comprises of La Rose Marguerite which represents the Rosecrucian order which is a hermetic order with its foundations in the tradition of western mystery. The second one representing Freemasonry is an association of brotherhood that emerged from ambiguous origins and it is said to have been dated somewhere between the time of the building of King Solomon's Temple to the mid-1600s. The Christmas season is celebrated with a number of small festivals and parades taking place all over the island. Jounen Kewyol or Creole Day is celebrated every year in October on the week that falls on the 27 th of the month. Grand preparations are exhibited on the Sunday of this week by towns that are chosen to host the festival.

Towns hosting the festival organise an array of local food an drink like, bread-fruit and salt fish, manicou (agouti) and roast bake, guava and lime drinks and more. This day is remembered by a majority of people by wearing the island's national attire called "madras"and those who do not wish to wear layers after layers of skirts and tunics make clothing out of a special kind of plaid material. The internationally distinguished Jazz Festival is also held on the island the tradition which started in the year 1991. This festival held each year attracts huge crowds of music lovers from all over the world. As far as music is concerned, the island is also rich in other Carribbean music genres like soca, zouk and reggae.
