Apart from the wide variety of activities and opportunities to hike, bird watch, tour the St. Lucian natural interest, charter a yacht or relax with a round of golf surrounded by St. Lucia's enchanting natural beauty, there are plenty of sites to windsurf, dive, water-ski or play tennis or squash plus deep-sea fishing, weekly "jump ups" at Gros Islet and visits to the weekly market at Castries.
Other ways of spending an exciting and splendid stay at St. Lucia is by a helicopter ride. Tourists can take flights that encircle the northern and southern parts of the island offering a birds eye view of the island, of the steaming orifice of Soufriere volcano and of the lush green carpet of the National Rain Forest
First-class equipment for wind surfing are offered by many hotels on the island. Cas en Bas and Vieux Fort are the most popular spots for an intermediate and advanced wind surfers. For beginners, calmer waters off the west coast is more appropriate.
This is another significant wartime base where a British Admiral once trapped the French by camouflaging his fleet with palm fonds. This beautiful bay is presently a yacht haven making it one of St. Lucia's most magnificent spots.
At Rodney Bay and Marigot Bay, yachts that are both bare-boat and skippered can be rented through a number of charter operations. Both the bays have safe anchorages, restaurants, bars, shower facilities, grocery stores and yacht maintenance facilities. The day boat trip includes stops at fishing villages and hidden coves and several St. Lucian natural bounties. During sunset, cruises along the northwest coast offer a splendid view as the sun disappears gradually below the horizon. The tour includes meals and bevarage facilities.

Both beginner and experienced divers can splurge into the clear warm waters and striking reefs with spectacular marine life. A number of hotels offer scuba diving facilities and snorkeling gears. There are also a number of independent centers that offer short boat dives, night dives and several scuba courses. Some of the underwater spots waiting to be explored are the Anse Cochon and Anse Chastanet reefs and an old sunken ship.
Water-skiing is available through most of the major hotels together with lessons available for beginner and intermediate skiers.
An entire day or half a day of deep sea fishing excursions are arranged by a number of boat charter operations. White Marlin, Kingfish, Barracuda, Mackerel, king Mackerel and Sailfish are among the seasonal catches

Most major hotels have tennis courts. The St. Lucia Racquet Club at Club St. Lucia has nine lighted courts. The St. Lucian Hotel has two courts available also to the public at reasonable rates and lessons can be arranged.
Squash courts are located close to the Cap Estate Golf Club, St Lucia Racquet Club and at St. Lucia Yacht Club.
International Riding Stables in Gros Islet offer completely insured riding activity in all levels. A variety of trail rides , a fascinating riding tour including a beach picnic at Cas en Bas, a scenic ride through the countryside with extra time for swimming and riding along the beach is what comprises the horse-back riding program. The Trims Riding School is located at Cas en Bas.
The island offers the tourists a look at duty free import goods like designer perfumes, china and crystal at Pointe Seraphine which is a shopping complex located in front of the harbour. Tourists can also be a part of the market day when the wives of the farmers come together at Castries' 100 year old outdoor market.They display their vibrant products under parasols which make a jovial scene.The products for sale in this open market are vegetables, fresh fruits, spices, woven baskets and other locally produced crafts.
Other shops in Castries such as Caribelle Batik factory and Bagshaws silk-screening studio also sell locally made handicrafts together with hand-screened batik clothing, the prints of which shows island scenes.
The island also has several well equipped gyms which mostly organise aerobic classes. Weight training, step, regular aerobics and a cardio center is available at Body Inc. World renowned body builders like Rick Wayne, Mae Sabbagh are among the staff at Body Inc. Modern Weider equipment can be found in Gonard La Borde's Gym located in Hospital Road. Vide Boutielle in Castries has Caribbean Fitness Expression which offers jazzercise, step, strecth and tone sessions plus a large weight room and a restaurant. Introductory figures released by the St. Lucia Tourist Board show that the number of tourist stopover, arrivals i.e. persons staying 24 hours or more, increased by 10% in May 2008 which counted up to 27,782 visitors compared to 25,212 visitors who arrived in May 2007.
