The island offers the tourists a look at duty free import goods like designer perfumes, china and crystal at Pointe Seraphine which is a shopping complex located in front of the harbour. Tourists can also be a part of the market day when the wives of the farmers come together at Castries' 100 year old outdoor market.They display their vibrant products under parasols which make a jovial scene.
The products for sale in this open market are vegetables, fresh fruits, spices, woven baskets and other locally produced crafts. Other shops in Castries such as Caribelle Batik factory and Bagshaws silk-screening studio also sell locally made handicrafts together with hand-screened batik clothing, the prints of which shows island scenes.
The island also has several well equipped gyms which mostly organise aerobic classes. Weight training, step, regular aerobics and a cardio center is available at Body Inc. World renowned body builders like Rick Wayne, Mae Sabbagh are among the staff at Body Inc. Modern Weider equipment can be found in Gonard La Borde's Gym located in Hospital Road. Vide Boutielle in Castries has Caribbean Fitness Expression which offers jazzercise, step, strecth and tone sessions plus a large weight room and a restaurant. Some of the island's major hotels also have well equipped gyms.

Introductory figures released by the St. Lucia Tourist Board show that the number of tourist stopover, arrivals i.e. persons staying 24 hours or more, increased by 10% in May 2008 which counted up to 27,782 visitors compared to 25,212 visitors who arrived in May 2007.
